General Information About Lamahatta

Lamahatta is a small village is located at an altitude of about 5,700 feet and 23km away from the main town Darjeeling. Surrounded by pine forest and the beautiful view of Mt Kanchenjunga this picturesque village has been developed as an eco-tourism place in late 2012. Earlier in the same year when the Chief Minister of the state Ms. Mamata Banerjee was passing by Lamahatta in March, she stopped by for a while and click some pictures of this roadside mountain village, its vast stretching forests of dhupi & pines, and the outstanding views of the peaks and rivers around. Although it's just a small village where farming and cattle rearing are the main sources of livelihood, Lamahatta is well connected by the Darjeeling-Kalimpong state highway.
Lamahatta is very attractive to the honeymoon couple and those who wish to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban life and enjoy natural solitude for some days. Peaceful and congested free natural environment surrounded by the pine or dhupi forests.
Main attractions in Lamahatta are the park and well-manicured garden within the village. A trekking route has also been built that will lead tourists through the pine tree maze to two lovely ponds locally called "jore pokhari" (twin ponds). Places at vantage points have been placed with a watchtower overlooking the surroundings. Lamahatta is a perfect occasion destination for voyagers who wish to make tracks in an opposite direction from the buzzing about of urban life and appreciate regular isolation, with its uncommon and wonderful types of blossoms covering the scene and encompassing patio nurseries. Lamahatta is very much associated with all real traveller centres like Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

Best Time To Visit Lamahatta

Takdah
Takdah Cantonment, a small hamlet located around 28 km from Darjeeling and around 40 km from Kalimpong, is an upcoming tourist destination. This little unknown hamlet has a very pleasant weather all the year round.

Road Side Garden
One of the main attractions of Lamahatta is the Roadside Garden spread over a vast expanse. An open garden displayed with a variety of seasonal flowers along with the vast display of a wide variety of Orchids. The watchtower and garden benches add to the beauty of the garden where one can enjoy nature at close quarters.
The view of the Kanchendzonga, Sikkim Hills, river Teesta and Rangit can be enjoyed from this garden. An ideal place to relax and forget all your worries.

Dense Dhupi Plantations
Small walks and treks are possible from Lamahatta. Walking amidst the Dhupi plantations with lush green flora all around provides a thrilling experience.

Hill Top Water Bodies
Small trek leads to two small ponds over the hill. These ponds are considered sacred by the locals.

Small Trek
Small trek from lamahattalodge through scenic garden up to the sacred water body through dense dhupi plantation and alpine valley and the scene meditation centre and then to the 8th-mile organic centre where one can relish organic carrot and beat vegetables and then back through village road to lamahattalodge time taken is 45minutes.

Medium Trek
Medium trek to old Buddhist monastery (made up of mud wood and stones ) through scenic forest and then stone pathway inside the alpine forest where one can be with nature with all the flora and fauna and the birds chirping and paradise for the bird lovers to small tea garden the Tuti Hatta tea Garden where the viewers are blessed by the mighty Mt.Kanchenjunga and the beautiful Singhalila Range and the gushing River Rangeet down below from the green carpet of the Darjeeling organic tea estate. there one can sip Darjeeling tea from the small shop at Tuti Hatta and being energised one can slowly climb through terrace farming of Lamahatta Busty and then back up to lamahattalodge. time took 2hrs,

Low altitude Trek
For the more adventurous folks low altitude trek from lamahatta down to Dabaipani and Ghate and over the Rungdung Khola and up to Lebong tea estate to Darjeeling, the time took max 5hrs.

Monastry
There are few monasteries in and around the village. Interested tourists can visit the place.

Jungle Trek
Around 8 km jungle trek from Lamahatta to Takdah.

From Siliguri the road distance to Lamahatta is about 72kms and will take about 3.5 hours. You will need to come to Jorebungalow near Ghoom and then take the road for Lamahatta. Easiest is to take a taxi from NJP station. Otherwise take a shared jeep up to Jorebungalow and then another one from there up to Lamahatta.
From Darjeeling the distance to Lamahatta is 23kms. Best is to take a taxi which will takae little over an hour to reach. If you are coming from Kalimpong, the distance is 41kms (about 2 hrs).
