There are few Government Resorts inside the Gorumara National Park which are under the jurisdiction of Forest department of Jalpaiguri Div II (Not WBFDC) and one of them is Gorumara Elephant Camp Dhupjhora. Situated on the southern side of Gorumara Forest along the banks of River Murti, Gorumara Elephant Camp Dhupjhora is a Forest Resort of Dooars. Dhupjhora got its name as ‘Elephant Camp’ because of Pilkhana (elephant stable of Gorumara National Park) located along the banks of River Murti.
Tree-house or Gachbari is an eco-friendly cottage located at a height supported by two Sal trees. It one of the best accommodation to stay at Dooars. Along with the tree-house, there are 6 other cottages total 7 cottages at Dhupjhora Elephant Camp. It is the only Forest Resort which offers treehouse accommodation in Dooars.
The rooms are cosy from inside with a wooden floor and a private verandah. Rooms are non-ac (weather is comfortable throughout the year) and have a glass panel which gives a wonderful view of the surroundings. Wash-room is attached along with the cottage. There are a common dining and a cultural zone. Room service is not available.
There is a lush green lawn in front of the cottage. An ideal place for the kids to play around. There is a beautiful tea garden on the backside of the cottage. Adjacent to the tea-garden lies the Gorumara Forest. A narrow path divides the boundary of the forest and the tea-garden. Dhupjhora Elephant Camp is a unique concept of eco-tourism where the tourists get a chance to feed the Forest but it is closed during the monsoon season.
In the evening guests are taken to Murti River to watch captive elephants bathed by the “mahout”. It about 15 minutes’ walk from Gachbari to the bathing point at Murti River. There is watchtower at the bathing point. There is Tribal Dance show in the evening, guests can match their steps with the local folks. After that meals are served. The cuisine is primarily Bengali style served with local Boroli Fish and Country Chicken made in homely style.

How to reach Gorumara Elephant Camp Dhupjhora
Gorumara National Park is located 80 kilometres from Siliguri. From Lataguri the entrance to the Dhupjhora Elephant Camp is located only at a distance of 10 kilometres. Dhupjhora is accessible by flight, train as well as by road.
The flight arrives at Bagdogra and from there you can hire a car to reach Gorumara Elephant Camp Dhupjhora. Bagdogra Airport at a distance of 79km is the closest airport from Dhupjhora Elephant Camp.
Alternatively, visitors can board a train for New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station. The distance between NJP to Dhupjhora Elephant Camp is 61km. From here hire a taxi/car to reach Dhupjhora Elephant. The road leading towards Dhupjhora is adorned with an astounding landscape of daunting hills, lush tea garden and emerald green subtropical forest.
